Who was disciple of Haile Selassie?

All born Rasta man and Rasta man are Emperor Haile Selassie Disciples.Elaboration: I dig the category of this discussion, 'History, Politics & Society," so I'd like to shed some reasoning my brothaman. As I prefer not to classify Rastafari as a religion as it mostly deals with social matters, I prefer to classify it as a philosophy that compliments religion. This view is more practically beneficial to me.I've heard Ras means head and Tafari means creator and Haile Selassie possesses this title. Therefore, It is more clear to me not say he is literally the creator that genesis speak of but in a still sense he wield that power. This power that he wields make him Rastafari and those who follow the head creator they are Rasta/Rastafari.Further more, in the olden days in Jamaica where fine men were aware of Rasta, they were highly elated to find Rasta and so they gave him honor. However, us as Rasta in this time look at the philosophy in a new way, that is to say, much like the old testament and new testament saga. So, as we are in an older age we have a higher awakening and we have arrived at a more mature meaning of Rasta. We look at Rasta in this way:Who ever in society has a head and has an awareness of its creation they are man but whoever is just and living righteous, uses the creative energy for the good, wellbeing, concord and upliftment of himself and his fellow brothers, he shall enter into Rastafari.

How did the Rastafarian tradition begin?

Rastas believe there has been two incarnations of God; Jesus and Haile Selassie of Ethiopia. I'm not sure where the Religion started but it is fairly prominent in the West Indies, where the Rastas there believe they will return to Zion, in Africa.

In the 70s rastafarian religion became popular why is the hair style significant?

To Rastafarians, dreadlocks are seen as biblical and they believe it makes them look more like Haile Selassie (the emperor of Ethiopia during the 1920s) who they considered god. Taken from the book, "WHY SO MANY GODS?" by Tim Baker and Kate Etue.

Why did the Rastafarians think of Haile Selassie as a god?

Mmmm ... The "think of Haile Selassie as a God" , interpretation of your question , is a rather debatable conjecture. There are many reasons why Rastafaris thought of Haile Selassie as a God ! 1} Why cannot God incarnate as a black negroid man , if he is recognised to have incarnated as a mongoloid {Bhudda} as a brown Caucasian {Ram} as an Andalusian {Zeuz} 2} The above contention is mostly brought about by the prevailing racism of the 1920s & the 1930s . Some debate that the Rastafari movement was a backlash to the hypocrisy of the then white racist christian churches , that previously had been complacent in the slave trade 3} Upon further study , many men of that time from the black community , sought strength & belief from the judaic & christian prophecy , concerning a 2nd incarnation of Jesus Christ . This quality of belief some say was imposed onto Haile Selassie , because of his christian judeo beliefs and that he was actually the Emperor of Ethiopia. Rastafari called Haile Selaisse "Jah" , that was the name they gave to him as an incarnation of God. Because of Rastafaris judeo christian roots , they saw him as Jesus Christ , in his second incarnation. These & many more are the many factors that made Rastafaris "think" of Haile Selaisse as God. Well to start if abrahim or abraraham is the father of king david..then both men could have been kushites which would make them the frist egyptians or ethiopians..also the storey of moses could have made him a kushite..Now since the kingdom of kush is said to have been in egypt, ethiopia, sudan, southern part of arabia and yemen or nothern arabia..some possilble into asia and india...since all ethiopians are kushites then juses is kin to david and soloman ..its said haile selassie is kin to david too...so in fact jesus may not have been full semtic he would have been similar to his kin which are from the horn of africa..so jesus and his kin skin could be described as bronze, copper or chocolate...the same as ethiopians and egyptians..so haile selassie would look alot like jesus... if he is kin to david this would in fact make him of divine family ..which would mean he would be close to his decendents..

How did Mussolini get away with attacking Abyssinia?

Mussolini attacked Abyssinia in October 1935 and conquered the country in 4 months. King Haile Selassie fled into exile. The world protested this military action. But Mussolini made it look like their neighboring colony of Eritea was attacked. Of course this was a ploy to get the war started. The Italians held on to this territory until the British liberated it in 1941.

Why did Bob Marley have dreadlocks?

AnswerBob Marley was a Rastafarian - he believed that the messiah had returned in the form of Hailie Selassie I - like many Jamaicans during his time & until now. Rastafarian's did not fear the "Babylon" system & did and continue to do things not to follow the dictations of the western society that states what's wrong and right & gives people rules to live by. By doing this people are brainwashed to a certain degree.....this is what Rasta's despise - FREEDOM is what they crave & sieze.Dreadlocks is a form of statement to say Rasta's will look a certain way - do the things they want to do and breaking from the dictations of what should be done according to one person's narrow point of view. It's much deeper than dreadlocks, rebellion, statement - it's become a Rastaman's identity."Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds" Bob MarleyAnswerThere are many religions who dread, but the Rastas take certain Bible references like the Nazerene vow very seriously. Samson and Jesus were Nazerites; a Nazerite takes a vow to not touch the fruit of the grape, nor cut or comb the hair or come in contact with the dead -- even a loved one who's passed. The Nazerite vow is a 100 day vow, but many Rastas make it a lifelong commitment. The vow is not a requirement of Rasta religion, but supporting Bible verses state that only the Nazerites can speak directly to God (or Jah) and only the Nazerites can enter the kingdom of heaven. Rastas who dread believe that come Judgment Day, Jah will drag his hand across the land, and the dreads of the righteous will tangle in his fingers and be lifted to the promised land. The vow of the Nazerites come from the Old Testament, so can be considered common to the Jewish, Christian and Rasta faiths alike.

Did Haile Selassie accept being considered God by the Rastafarians?

The answer to your question that is most easily researched comes from newspaper accounts at the time of the arrival of H.I.M. on the island of Jamaica - Jamaican & other Nations papers covered H.I.M. movements & activities extensively after speeches to Org. of African Unity & League of Nations - Black American newspapers in some cities covered H.I.M. & Garvey - my father related being called to gather around the short -wave radio by his father to listen to the broadcast of the coronation of H.I.M. - the crowning of a King/Emperor in Africa was considered by many bible-reading lay/regular Black folk to be the fulfillment of biblical prophecy according to my maternal Grandmother.Bottom Line: Research the media ( also photo archives) of the time.Short answer: H.I.M. was surprised, (refused to leave airplane at first because of surrounding crowd), somewhat shocked and rather vocal about NOT being seen as divine or Divinity. As a former Rastafarian, I too believed Haile Selassie to be Messiah. Upon further research and a fervent desire for truth (even if it was different from what I already believed), I came across a radio interview in a song by Christafari. Here in this interview Haile Selassie plainly denies being anything other than a man. He himself worshiped Jesus Christ and fellowshipped with very prominent Christians. While in Exile, he stayed in Wales with Reese Howells-a bible believing Christian known for his many miraculously answered prayers( http://www.amazon.com/Rees-Howells-Intercessor-Norman-Grubb/dp/0875081886 ) Haile Selassie was a good man in many respects. He was a great leader and a strong Christian. He loved the bible and believed it to be flawless. He belonged to the Ethiopic Coptic church (that Bob Marley was baptized into 3 weeks before his death). Rastafarianism only makes sense if you are high, indoctrinated, and then kept high. There are so many holes in the religion itself, I'm surprised to find as few books on the subject. Matthew 24:23-28 makes it very clear to not believe anyone if they ever tell you that Jesus has returned. Jesus with His own mouth said he would come in such a way that everyone on earth would not only know, but that the earth would immediately be overrun with ALL of the angels. (the bible says there are more angels than the stars in the sky. There are enough stars in the sky to have everyone who ever lived own 1.3 TRILLION stars!) Believe the Messiah when He speaks. If Haile Selassie was Christ, then He lied in the book he sees as perfect. Haile Selassie was Not Jesus Christ. He was a great man and a passionate leader. Why isn't this enough? That answer is not true. Haile Selassie I never once said he was not God.Here is a quote from the book Reggae Routes: The Story of Jamaican Music By Kevin O'Brien-----------Former Senator and Gleaner editor, Hector Wynter, tells of asking him, during his visit to Jamaica in 1966, when he was going to tell Rastafarians he was not God. 'Who am I to disturb their belief?' replied the emperor.-----------And in regard to the interview where the man above says "he plainly denied", there was no denial, he didn't once in his answer say that he is not God.Selassie I is One with Jah, Selassie I is Jah.A lot of people use the interview answer below to say that Selassie is not Jah. But it is just misinterpretation of his words.Bill McNeil: "there are millions of Christians throughout the world, your Imperial Majesty, who regard you as the reincarnation of Jesus Christ."Selassie I: "I had heard of that idea. I also met certain Rastafarians. I told them clearly that 'I am a Man,' that 'I am mortal,'(I have heard that an Ethiopian that listened to this interview said that Selassie I never said mortal) and that 'I would be replaced by the oncoming generation, and that they should never make a mistake in assuming or pretending that the human being is emanated from a deity.'"When I look at RasTafarI's answer, this is how I understand it. He showed the people that he is a Man, and will be replaced by the oncoming generation. Selassie I was born of mother and father, just like I and I, so he didn't flow out (emanate) of God, any more than I and I. Both I and I and Selassie I come from the lineage of Adam and Eve.Notice that he said that the humans we see have not emanated from God, but he never said that a human cannot be God. I and I can be God, but only by being One with Jah. I and I can't be God separate from Jah, as two gods. But I and I can only join with Jah, to be One with HIM, as One God.Selassie lives by the example of Christ, so he became One with Jah by his destiny and livity. And all of I and I can also be One with Jah, by I and I livity. Selassie I said that "we should never make a mistake in assuming or pretending that the human being is emanated from a deity". This statement shows I that no man, not even the Son of Man Christ, emanated (or flowed out) from God. Christ was born of his mother Mary, and by his destiny and livity became One with Jah.Jah first sent Christ born from a virgin, to show I and I the way to live. But afterwards, people made the excuse that they can't live without sin, or be One with Jah. They made the excuse that because Christ was born differently, that it was possible for him to live this way, but not for us, because we are born from mother and father. So Jah sent RasTafarI to I and I, to show I and I the way to live. Haile Selassie I was born of mother and father, just like I and I, so we no longer have the excuse that we can't live without sin and be One with Jah. If Selassie I can be born like I and I, and still live without sin and be One with Jah, then I and I can do the same.So I and I should know that it is not about I and I coming out of God to be One with Jah. But it is about I and I going to God to be One with Jah. And I and I go to God by living in His way and listening to His instruction and joining ourselves with the Most High.Jah RasTafarI is One with Jah, and like I already said about One. One is One in completeness, no separation, and no parts. And I and I are supposed to be One with Jah also, this is the way to reach Zion, because no sin shall not enter in.
