Gilbert Blythe is a character who is one of Anne's closest friends. He falls in love with Anne but she angry at him for an incident that happend in school. i will not go on for fear of ruining the story.
Yes, she has 7 children. In Anne's House of Dreams, she has a stillborn daughter, Joyce, and later, James Matthew (Jem). In the next books, she has a son, Walter; two twin daughters, Anne and Diana (Nan and Di); a son, Shirley; and a daughter, Bertha Marilla (Rilla).
At first, Gilbert was always picking on anne, turns out Gilbert had a crush on anne but i don't think anne felt the same way so they just became friends. And then i am quite positive Gilbert got married to a friend of annes and her and Gilbert just stayed friends.
Gilbert met Anne in school when they were thirteen and eleven, respectively. He made the mistake of making fun of her red hair by calling her "Carrots." She broke her slate over his head and hated him fiercely up until she was about sixteen years old. In the beginning of that hatred, he tried making up with her about twice, but she kept scorning him until he hated her, too.
It's revealed later that he always had a crush on her. She begins to suspect his feelings for her but refuses to do anything about it - she doesn't want to grow up and "spoil everything." Gilbert proposes marriage to her, but she rejects him and thinks she's fallen in love with someone else (only to later reject that poor dude too).
When Gilbert falls extremely ill and is believed to have no chance of survival, Anne finally realizes she loves him, too. Gilbert makes a miraculous recovery and proposes again (after a long interlude where they renew their friendship), and she gladly accepts. They have a long engagement while Gilbert finishes medical school before marrying and having seven children together, only five of which survive into adulthood.
In a sequel series focusing on the next generation, "Grandpa and Grandma Blythe" are seen as in love as ever, despite their advancing age.
