No, because the effect requires you to search for three, not 'up to three'. If you do not have at least three in deck, then you can't activate the effect.

As long as there is a valid target, Flint will trigger and re-equip to a monster after the previous equip target is destroyed. You cannot voluntarily move an Equip card from one monster to another, or unequip it and have it be destroyed, unless another effect lets you do so. Tailor of the Fickle is one card. The other situation is with Union monsters who turn into Equip cards. These can unequip themselves as an activated effect and summon themselves back to the monster zone.
