Superman (whose actual name was Clarke Kent, given him by the couple who adopted him when he landed on Earth) was a journalist on the fictional newspaper 'The Daily Planet'. It was his task as a roving reporter that often brought him into contact with emergencies and dangers that required his skills as Superman- he also met his girlfriend Lois Lane because of his job, as she was on the 'paper's staff as well.
