According to a JK Rowling interview shortly after the publication of the last book, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley are Auror's. Harry is actually the head of the Auror office. That means he hunts down dark wizards. Deathly Hallows was published in 2007 and at the end of the book is a chapter called "19 years later" (i.e. 2026) in which Harry is most definitely alive and is saying goodbye as his second child leaves for Hogwarts.
