SpectroMagic debuted on October 1, 1991, after the September 14 retirement of the Main Street Electrical Parade. It went on hiatus in May 1999 while the Main Street Electrical Parade made a brief return to the Magic Kingdom. SpectroMagic returned in April 2001 with several additions and has been running since.

Disney has not given any reasons, but they have canceled the Main Street Electric Parade. It's final run will be on October 9, 2016. After that, it is heading to Disneyland, California for a limited-time showing. The Main Street Electric Parade has continued off and on since its debut in 1972. There are a good deal of rumors on what the parade may be replaced with, but nothing that has been confirmed by Disney just yet.
