The main story is about a 16 year old girl called Katniss Everdeen who takes her younger sister's place in a brutal game organised each year called the Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games is a competition where 24 boys and girls (two from each of the 12 districts) compete in the arena for their own survival. Only one person can win the games. Each year, the arena is different. The job of the stylists is to try and make the competitors as attractive as possible to ensure they get sponsors. A poor person can sign up for a tesserae, in which their name gets entered into the draw more times than usual in order to gain enough grain to feed a single person for a year. The Hunger Games is a reminder from the Capitol (the people in charge) about the consequences of a rebellion.

The main idea of the story explores how she has to go to certain extents to ensure her safety, which includes falling in love with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. It also progresses onto how one action leads Katniss to becoming the rebel leader, and how she and her friends and family fight against the Capitol in order to gain their independance.

The books are truly amazing and I really don't think that this summary gives enough credit to the trilogy. All I can say is read the books!

A 16 Year old girl Katniss Everdeen, live in District 12, in Panem, Panem is a place that is made of North America, Katniss is entered to fight in the 74th Annual hunger games, she replaces her sister Primrose, to fight to the deaths entered with a boy who has had a crush on her from her whole childhood, when she gets in the games she is confused, but takes out the careers, then she is joined with Peeta, they get to the final two, but say they will do suicide if they both don't win, so they let them both win, they both go back to District 12 to celebrate.
