When you dial out on a touch-tone phone, each button is assigned a pair of non harmonically related audio frequencies, and the distant exchange recognizes these and knows which button has been pressed.

There are several standardized frequency sets in use around the world, controlled by the Tellecomunications Union.

The cellphone battery works like any other rechargeable battery.

The specification means that it has to small, lightweight and have a good capacity.

Modern phones mostly use Li-ion batteries. These are Lithium ion, which although being expensive, provide the right specification.

Made up of several cells, joined in a flat package. Charging correctly needs careful monitoring and current regulation. This is all taken care of by circuitry inside the phone. A temperature probe is also included inside the battery, to check that it does not overhead during charging.

All you need to do is supply your phone with external power and then watch the indicators on the phone, to check charging.
