How come Henry JonesSsr aka Sean Connery character died before the Srystal skulls when he drank from the holy grail in IindianaJjones and the Last crusade?

Water drunk from the Holy Grail only grants immortality while the person is in the cave with the Holy Grail. After the person leaves that cave, the immortality is lost.
