How come they make animes that are only about 26 episodes long and yet there's still more in the mangas any way?

Turning Manga into Anime, costs quite a bit. What they do is that they broadcast about 12-24 Episodes. After that, they rely on the sales [DVDs and Blu-rays] to tell them whether they shouldcontinueof not. There is absolutely no points spending money on making an Anime that isn't even popular. It is a waste of time and money.
