England at the time had several religious factions--the Puritans, who wanted reforms to the Church of England to go farther, Catholics, who believed that she was a heretic, and Anglicans, the religion that her father started to legitimize his divorces and take property from the Catholic Church.

She worked towards a "via media"--incorporating elements of the above to create as broad a religion as possible. She did not actively persecute the opposition as her predecessor, Mary I did.
