At the start of the book, Harry was rather quiet and often very nervous. Dudley and his friends bullied Harry and he had no friends. At Hogwarts, Harry becomes friends with several of his classmates very quickly, and is quite popular, allowing him to stand up to bullies and step in when less brave classmates were the victim (i.e Neville with Draco).

When he first entered Hogwarts, Harry felt out of place because he was famous for something he couldn't remember. But after joining the Quidditch team and saving the stone, he starts accepting his fame.

Harry also matured a lot throughout the book as he was forced to fight against evil.
