How did Harry Potter take away Lord Voldemort's powers when he was an infant?

Lord Voldemort gave Harry's mother, Lily, the choice to stand aside and live. She refused to do so and died protecting her child. This created a strong bond of magic that is not understood by many. Lily's love for her son created a powerful protection spell over him.
When Lord Voldemort - a person who had delved into the darkest of magic to extend his life - tried to kill an innocent, defenceless baby he was unable to. The spell rebounded and hit Lord Voldemort. However, as Voldemort already had several Horcruxes he didn't die, he was just ripped from his body.

∙ 9y agoLilly (Harry's mother) sacrificed herself so that Harry could live. In doing that, she did some ancient magic that protected Harry in a way that Voldemort couldn't touch him. So when Voldemort tried to kill him, the curse rebounded on himself.
