Vacationing off the coast of Turkey on October 2, 2016, she was assisting with a boat anchor when her left hand got caught in the anchor line. The upper half of her ring finger was ripped off and fell onto the boat deck. Her friends recovered it and it was surgically reattached the same day. The prognosis is unclear but evidently the surgeons were confident that the reconnected digit could be made functional again.
The finger was apparently pulled loose near the middle joint after being twisted in a nylon anchor rope.
