How did Sirius Black escape from Hogwarts?

When Harry Potter was a baby, he survived because Lily died for her son and love is a very powerful form of magic. Lord Voldemort, who never understood love, failed to realise this and tried to kill Harry anyway - resulting in the spell backfiring.

Harry survived in his first year once again because of this love. Quirrel could not touch him when Lord Voldemort was sharing his soul.

He escaped the graveyard because their wands joined and it gave him a chance to make it back to the graveyard.

At the ministry he escaped because Albus Dumbledore arrived.

During the seventh book Harry avoided Lord Voldemort a few times: at the wedding Hermione along with Ron and Harry apparated away before they were captured. The same also happened at Bathilda Bagshot's house, but it was a much closer call.

During the final battle, Voldemort gave Harry an hour to surrender himself to Voldemort in the forest. After watching Snape's memories Harry realised that he had to die for Voldemort to be destroyed, and so he gave himself up.

There, Voldemort tried to kill him by using the Killing Curse. However, Harry didn't die because inside him is a piece of Voldemort's soul, which makes Harry a Horcrux. By attacking Harry with the Killing Curse Voldemort killed the piece of soul inside Harry.

During the last duel, it was revealed that as Draco Malfoy was the one who overpowered Dumbledore before he died, he was the true owner of the Elder Wand, which is the wand Voldemort is currently using. As Harry overpowered Draco a few weeks back, that makes Harry the true owner of the Elder Wand. And so, when Voldemort tried to kill Harry (again) using the Elder Wand, it flew up because it would not kill its master.

James and Lily Potter went into hiding while Lily was still pregnant with Harry to protect themselves and their unborn child. Voldemort didn't find them until Harry was already over a year old.

He survived the killing curse because his mother died to save him and it formed a protection over him from somebody who doesn't understand love.
