How did Zuko get his scar?

Zuko got his scar when his father, Fire Lord Ozai, burned his face in an Agni Kai (Firebending duel) when Zuko was 13. Zuko had spoken out of turn in a war meeting, and his punishment was to fight an Agni Kai. When Zuko found out that he was to be dueling his own (much more powerful) father, he begged for mercy, but none was granted. Shortly after, he was banished.

According to the manga... Kenshin received one scar that was a line when he was battling Kiyosato Akira (Tomoe's fiance). Later when he was fighting to save Tomoe, he received another scar accidentally from Tomoe's dagger when he accidentaly killed her. This scar was a line crossing over the previous one. This resulted in the cross shape.
