To get an acting job without money really isn't too much of a problem. If it's a job, they should be paying you. While it helps to have an agent, I went a really long time without one and got a lot of good jobs. Experience, on the other hand, is something you'll have to build, because professional gigs will require headshot and resume depending on exactly the company or people you're working with. It really depends. Try to use whatever experience you have. Build a resume with any show, from community theatre or even school and church theatre. Include any training, like lessons (acting, singing, dancing) and workshops. It would be really helpful to know what the exact audition requires because different auditions will ask for a lot of different things. But, once you're prepared, you try and hope for the best!

The answer? As much as you can get! A film or theater actor would want as many roles as possible on his resume, and even if your thinking of acting in movies only, any extra parts you can get in the theater would be useful. If your just starting out in acting, I would recommend working in as much community theater as possible. Basically, the more experience the better; and remember, there is not a set number of roles you need to become an actor, so get out there and act!
