They're the huge landmarks that look like Pokemon, for instance the desert map there's that Dugtrio on the way in, snap a picture, show it to Oak and he'll tell you that was a sign. The one in the cave is in a crack, you will see some shinies and when you take a picture it will look like Mewtwo.
The game is technically over but you can still collect Pokemon and go to more places.
The game will be available for the Wii U Virtual Console starting August 18,1016, but so far it will only be available in the eShop for Europe and Australia. No word yet on it coming to the Virtual Console for the US.

Pokemon are useful to collect for filling up your Pokedex. After filling up the regular dex, you can get the national pokedex to try and collect even more pokemon. However, there is no real other use then just the fun of collecting itself, so if you don't like this, don't do it :P

Well as a whole it is a Pokemon game, which is fun because of how you collect, train, and evolve your Pokemon.
As of this moment, there is no DS version of Pokemon Snap. However, the game was re-released for the Wii's Virtual Console on December 10, 2007 in the US. This version can upload pictures from the game to the Wii's Message Board, where they can be transferred to people on the Wii's Address Book.
