How do you control rumors?

If it is true, it is not a rumor- it is a fact and unfortunately either way you won't stop people from talking. Try acting as if it doesn't bother you and interest will be lost quickly. Ask people who are talking about it to see who started the rumor then ask them to stop. All of us will have to deal with rumors (or gossip as I like to call it) throughout your life. The fact these rumors are true means you need to learn from them and that's all that's important. I'd ignore them and you don't have to justify yourself all the time because approaching the person who is talking about you will only egg them on more or others in the group will join in. Many of us were brought up that we had to be responsible for our actions. Remember, what is news today (that's you) will be replaced with other news in a week or two.) Learn from your mistakes, stick to what you believe in and look people in the eye if you feel you are not At Fault. You aren't the first person to be gossiped about and you won't be the last. Time does heal everything.

Ask the person or people that the rumor is about. That is the most effective way. Also, consider who started the rumor and if they have reason to make things up.

If a rumor about you was going around, wouldn't you want the people to come to you and find out the truth rather than continue spreading it without your knowledge or consent?
