Actually it depends on the game if you are on diamond or pearl versions rumor has it that if you put them up for offer on the GTS (make sure you make it for an abomasnow lvl 9 and under or something impossible to get like that) then take it back it will evolve trust me i did it to get my machoke into a machamp

It depends. Some you can't even get (Bellsprount and it's evolution) (Vulpix/Ninetales) (Sandshrew/Sandslash). You should wait patiently. Some take pretty long to evolve. Have you got element stones? Some only evolve with element stones (pikachu-->raichu) (eevee-->jolteon using the electric stone eevee-->vaporeon using the water stone and eevee-->flameon using the fire stone) some only evolve with a moon stone (clefairy-->clefable) (jigglypuff-->wigglytuff) (nidoran-->nidorino-->nidoking) (nidoran female-->nidorina-->nidoqueen)

To evolve Pokemon by trading, you need to have a copy of diamond, pearl, platinum, heartgold, or soulsilver and two ds systems. Go to the Union Room with the Pokemon you need to trade for both games. Then make one person talk to the other and select trade. Then, select your Pokemon and confirm the trade.

You just have to train them to certain levels.

If it's a Pokemon that only evolves by trade, then you can't evolve it. Any other Pokemon, just evolve it however it is supposed to evolve (level-up, evolution stone, etc...).
