There are a few variations on the glitch, but here what I do.
Go to Viridian City (Where Giavonni's gym is), and talk to the old man who wanted coffee. He'll catch his pokemon. Then, fly to Cinnabar Island, and surf up and down the right hand side of the island. Whatever the seventh item in your list is, you'll get quite a few of- Not infinite, but more than 99.
