You can improve your shop by adding HTML including text and images to the "Shop Description" field. You can even change how existing shop elements look by changing their CSS using a style tag.
Some people have created lovely designs that you can copy and paste into your "Shop Description" to totally change how your shop looks. Some of their websites are listed here:
