To obtain an Arcanine in Pokemon Diamond or Pearl, you must first catch its pre-evolution; Growlithe. This Pokemon can be found on Routes 201 and 212 after you have obtained the National Pokedex and have inserted a Pokemon FireRed cartridge into the second slot of the DS. Note that Growlithe will only appear if this particular game is inserted and will not appear anywhere else under different conditions.
