Why is Sonic the only character who turns into a werehog?
If you watch the intro it appears if Sonic was shocked to become a werehog, BUT the truth is that when he was shocked by the purple beams Drk Gaia material was being put into him. Near the end of the game it shows the Werehog getting the dark energy taken out of him when he looks into Dark Gaia's eye and reverts back into Sonic.

Those moves include the light speed dash and light speed attack. In super interactive annual 2014 sonic the hedgehog book in his profile in the guidebooks. It states that sonic is faster than the speed of light. In Sonic Colors (DS) -Omega made calculations from Sonic and remarked that light speed would be exceeded by him, and Sonic replied that light speed is too slow for him (I think you know how Sonic feels about slower things). In Sonic the Comic: Hyper Sonic #134: Something about 2 missiles on opposite ends of continents about to hit. He pushed himself to his extreme limit, and really straned himself, entering a realm where time was stopped. He then proceeded to take out the threats in no time. After this, he had trouble getting out of this accelerated mode and was nearly stuck permemantly , until he found how to slow himself down to get out of it. So basically, sonic moved at the speed of infinite, because he was moving from one location to another in NO TIME.

Is Sonic the 3rd strongest character in the Sonic series?
Depends on the continuity. In the videogame continuity sonic is widely considered to be the strongest or at least equal strongest with several other characters. Those that rival him would be Silver the hedgehog, Blaze the Cat, Knuckles the Echidna and Shadow the hedgehog Silver is completely outmatched physically but is capable of psychokinesis which gives him flight and the ability to use his surroundings to his advantage far better than sonic. Blaze the cat is implied to be Sonic from an alternate dimension in her original game which puts her at roughly the same level as him. While she is physically inferior her pyrokinetic abilities increase her strength to rival sonic. Knuckles lacks the speed of the others on this list but in terms of pure power he outmatches them all. Sonic is able to outmatch knuckles for speed and skill but Knuckles' pure power leaves sonic struggling when he gets hit by him. Shadow is the closest to Sonic's level of strength and arguably the best match for him. Shadow is a little bit weaker but his skill at tapping into the chaos emerald's abilities and the additional speed gartered from his air shoes places him on equal terms with sonic. If someone could expand on the comic continuity that would be appreciated.

Sonic does deal the first hit when the final boss (Tabuu) readies one of his attacks, but is interupted when a blue ball smashes into his wings twice, which happens to be when Sonic first appears.
