Most newer Pokemon games have a specific person in the game that tells your Pokemon's happiness in firered and leafgreen when you give an item to your Pokemon the closer they get to the screen the happier they are.

She will tell you the happiness of the Pokémon that is first in your party.
If your Pokémon if full of happiness she says something like ''Your Pokémon is very loyal, it must love you alot''

∙ 12y agoYou have to talk to your Pokemon in order to know their feelings/happiness. If you use them in battle a lot (and win) they will grow happier and happier. Usually, the Pokemon will smile or spin or let out a cry when it is happy. :)
