Bilbo's Ring is in fact the One Ring created by the Dark Lord Sauron. It can help Bilbo by turning him invisible which can get him out of troubling situations, such as fleeing from Gollum and the Goblins in the Misty Mountains.
The Ring can hurt him by making him irritable, hostile, selfish to the point of only caring for the Ring, arrogant, and all around bringing out the worst in him.
However, these negative effects are hardly noticed in The Hobbit.

No. Arvedui never had possession of the One Ring. The ring he gave to the chieftan of the Lossoth was the Ring of Barahir, a precious heirloom of the Kings of Arnor. The Ring of Barahir was the ring Beren One-Hand used to summon help from the elven king Finrod Felagund. It passed on through Numenor and then to Elendil. From then the Kings of Arnor inherited it. Aragorn wore this ring throughout the Lord of the Rings. One serpent devouring, the other crowned victorious was the scultp of the ring.

If your asking why your hurt it could be that your feeling bad because you think that what you gave her wasnt good enough since she bought a new one. It still is not right that she went out to buy a new ring. That should have been a decision you both should have made together since you bought her a ring in the first place. You could try and have a talk with her and let her know how you feel about her buying this.
A purity ring is for both female and male.
When I got mine done it didn't hurt. The clamp pinched, the needle stung, and when they put the ring in it hurt a little but for me, I have a low tolerance for pain, and it hurt less than getting a shot at the doctors
