Jim Henson's Muppets were moved in a variety of ways. Some were manipulated using puppeteer's sticks (Rizzo, Animal's and Elmo's hands and feet, Beeker's mouth, etc.), some utilized marionette strings (small flying extras like bats and birds), still others were manipulated by the hands of puppeteers inside of them (Kermit, Miss Piggy, Rolf, Oscar, Cookie, and Elmo's body and mouth). A few of the larger Muppets were full sized costumes with a puppeteer inside (Big Bird, Snufflufagus, etc.). Occassionally, they were animatronic or remote control.
