The climax is that the Buadelairs get abondoned from the colony just as Count Olaf finds a disguise and claims to be Kit Snicket. Kit was pregnant and to make himself look pregnant he puts a diving helmet filled with Medusoid Mycelium, a very dangerous poison, under his dress. When he goes to the leader the leader shoots the diving helmet and poisons the whole colony.
Lots of stuff happened in The End. Let's see... Kit Snicket died, Count Olaf died, it was revealed that Beatrice was the Baudelaire orphan's mom, VFD stands for Volunter Fire Department, Kit had a baby (the father was Dewey Denoument) and when she died the Baudelaires became the guardians of it, the baby was a girl and they named her Beatrice, the Incredably Deadly Viper reappeared and then had to leave again, the sugar bowl remains a mystery, the triplets never show up (some people think they're dead, based on Kit's description)...I can't think of anything else. And in the very end of the book, the Baudelaires (after living alone on the island for a year) decide to head back to the mainland with Little Beatrice. Their ship wrecks on the way back (the shipwreck poster in The Beatrice Letters is of that shipwreck) and Little Beatrice and the Baudelaires are separated. I'm pretty sure that Little Beatrice hired Lemony Snicket to find the Baudelaires, Snicket tried to track them down by gathering information from all the places they'd been since their parent's deaths and he based A Series of Unfortunate Events on the observations he made (that explains why so much time has passed between when the Baudelaires were at a certain place, and when Snicket came there to investigate).
In The Austere Academy when the Quagmire triplets, Duncan and Isadora Quagmire were researching Count Olaf's history, they reveal that they have discovered an important secret regarding V.F.D but are kidnapped by Count Olaf before they can tell the Baudelaire orphans what they've discovered. The V.F.D. mystery increases in suspense because the group is connected with the deaths of the Baudelaire's and the Quagmire parents and the schemes of their enemy (Count Olaf). The Baudelaire's' soon discover (in book 10, The Slippery Slope) that it is the name of a secret organization, and stands for volunteer fire department
The essayist's ciosnce and yet comprehensive exposition on human accomplishment took me a week's time to internalize. I like to add that of China's "Hundred Schools of Thought" in the Warring States Period, Mao was a great admirer of Gong Sunlong, the earliest logician, sophist and dialectician. His "Discourse on White Horse is Not a Horse" gave Mao the inspiration in devicing the Regime's political system with such a mind-twisting name as "the people's democratic distatorship".
In the movie, Count Olaf gets sent to jail and the Baudelaire parents are alive.
