However, he has never received either of the medals for which he should have been eligible, that is, the Distinguished Conduct Medal or a VC. He was never formally recommended by the officer in question. He is at least commemorated in a large bronze sculpture at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, as well as in many other statues and exhibits around Australia.
