Curly Top and The Littlest Rebel were named by Variety to its list of top 1935 box office draws, and several of the songs she introduced in her films sold hundreds of thousands of sheet music copies and placed her in the ranks of chart-topping musical superstars such as Bing Crosby, Nelson Eddy, and Alice Faye (Balio 228-9). In 1939, Temple became the subject of a work by Salvador Dali.

Temple received the Career Achievement Award in 1992 from the National Board of Review, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1500 Vine Street, the Life Achievement Award from the American Center of Films for Children, and Kennedy Center Honors in 1998. In 2002, a life-size bronze statue of the child Temple was erected on the Fox lot.[3] In January 2006, Black received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.[4]

Temple received honorary doctorates from Santa Clara University and Lehigh University, a Fellowship from College of Notre Dame, and a Chubb Fellowship from Yale University.[citation needed]
