As many as you can get.
Yes, Sonic Generations does have red rings. Both Classic and Modern Sonic have to collect 5 in each stage.
Sonic the Hedgehog holds many rings as part of the game's design, where collecting rings serves as a form of protection and a way to score points. In the gameplay, rings act as a buffer against losing lives; if Sonic gets hit, he loses his rings instead of dying. The colorful rings also enhance the game's visual appeal and encourage exploration, as players can find them throughout levels. This mechanic is a signature element of the franchise, contributing to its fast-paced, fun gameplay.
There is no such thing as Master Sonic. There is Super Sonic, which he transforms into using the 7 chaos emeralds, there is Hyper Sonic when he collects all Super Emeralds and many more transformations, but there is no such thing as Master Sonic .
You have to collect all the Chao in each zone (there are 10 hidden in the 3 acts in each zone, plus one on the zone map. You can find how many are in where by going into the Sonic Factory and going into the Chao Garden and pressing select). Then, you need to go into act one of that zone and collect the special key. Then, find the special spring somewhere on the map, and that will take you to the special stage. If completed, you get a Chaos Emerald. There are Seven in all. Once all Chaos Emeralds are found, Complete Final Zone with Sonic as the Leader and you will be taken to the Extra Zone with Super Sonic.
I'm not sure exactly how many characters there are in the game, but as far as playable characters go you can only play as sonic
A good way to get rings in Sonic the Hedgehog 06 is by helping townspeople with missions. You can tell if they have a mission if they have a blue icon above their head. You can also collect rings from action stages. Collect as many rings as you can to collect in-game items that help you complete the game.

You must collect whatever the 7 things are in the game (usually the Chaos Emeralds). In the earlier games and the sonic Rush series you collected them via a minigame found somewhere in the stage (look for the really big ring/spring or the red ball) once you complete the minigame you get the Emerald. In sonic adventure and such, you get them after a stage or at certain plot points. then you can usually change into super sonic or one of his many different forms. For sonic, they are always the chaos emeralds. you find them as you pregress through a certain game. In the comics, you needed 100 magic rings and 7 chaos emeralds, (which in the comics there were tons of) but in the real sonic world, there are only 7, and you dont need 100 rings to go super. You can only turn into Super Sonic in the extra zone if you are playing sonic advance.
