Close to ten denied J.K Rowling the opportunity to publish the Harry Potter series. It was dubbed by four publishers as "un-sellable" and "too fictional to sell". I attended a speech by Joanne to gain this insight. In fact, Bloomsbury initially weren't interested in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone having put it on the low priority shelf until the chairman took the first chapter home for his daughter to read. Eight year old Alice Newton read the chapter and then demanded immediately demanded the next one.

Even then Bloomsbury didn't expect it to be a hit and advised J.K. Rowling to get a day job. They ordered an initial print run of 500 - 300 of which were sent to libraries.
