Cowboy, certainly, but not a musical one. As far as I know John Wayne never did any singing onscreen. Singing cowpunchers would include Gene Autry ( melody Ranch) Roy Rogers- at least he had a theme song- Happy trails, and surely there were others- Mr. Rogers ( not the kiddy star) had a group called alternately- the Range Riders, and the Sons of the Pioneers. Lorne Green did a couple of songs- including, obviously a vocal version of Bonanza. The song gives the incorrect idea - maybe this was a screenwriters idea that Bonanza, like say Melody Ranch, was the name of the Rancho as it is a Spanish term. No Russian Cowgirls which might verify that old parody about- Thy Precious Russian Body, becomes our PAY DIRT feast! Bonanza indeed!
