Because if skis were short and round, they would be called "bicycles".
any cheap, all mountain skis would suit a beginner nicely.
First of all you need sharp skis. without sharp skis you can carve in the snow and you start sliding everywhere. You can test your skis by scraping your finger nail on the edge. if a little part of your nail comes off after sliding down with the slightest pressure you can tell it is sharp. also waxing makes skis go faster and i have heard that rubbing soap on the bases of your skis makes them go super fast, (but it leaves bubble's.) I hope this answers your question!
Yes, there is a company that allows you to design pretty much every aspect of your ski. Rocker, Camber, Sidecut, Graphics, Material Selection, Length, etc. They are building mogul skis, super fat powder skis, and they've got a pretty cool review section. The company is called 333 Skis and they are saying that the base price of their skis is $333 and they built their own factory. www.333skis.com
You can purchase cheap skis at sites like The-House. They are currently offering 70% off on their products. Another cheap place to buy skis would be Amazon or eBay.

The skier would sink and would be stuck and would have to pack snow to be able to put his skis back on, not to mention all the snow that would get stuck on the bottom of your boots. the skis would tip to the sides when you try to step into them. so if you can help it leave your skis on!
Yes, but why would you? If a low fluoro wax is needed ... then use a low fuoro ... which is less expensive than mixing a non-fluoro one with a high fluoro one. I use the super expensive one's when racing, keep my race skis "prepped" with a high quality non-fluoro wax and only use the fluoro for a race. For my recreational skis they just have a quality non-fluoro wax on them.
