The Book of Genesis opens by attributing incredible ages to the Israelite heroes, including a lifespan of 930 years for Adam. As the stories approach historical times, the ages of the Israelite heroes become more realistic but, at 110 years, Joseph's lifespan remains improbable in the extreme.

The ages of Adam, the first person mentioned in Genesis,and Joseph, the last person mentioned in the book, are strangely linked, showing just how unlikely it is that either died at that age:

Adam lived to 930 years, which equals 30 X 30 + 30;

Joseph lived to 110 years, which equals 10 X 10 + 10.
