Elizabeth never reigned over Scotland. Mary I of Scotland was succeeded by her son when she was forced to abdicate. If you meant Mary I of England then Elizabeth 'replaced' her because she died. Mary I had no children so the next heir was her only remaining sibling, Elizabeth.
