well it depends on the gyms. if its the first 3 gyms then u should fight all the trainers possible and fight wild Pokemon for the last 5 gyms dawn should have given you a vs seeker so you look for the trainer that gives the mostexperience and battle that trainer.

Cyndaquil is the easiest to beat the gyms with. Totodile is a very powerful Pokemon with high attack and defense, i highly recommend him to you. Chikorita is the worst, I suggest you don't get it.

Go to Indigo Plateu. You will battle Elite Four there and that is the end of the game. Dont worry, you will still be able to continue with game after you beat them. Train your Pokemon before going to Elite Four because they are strong.
In leaf green you should start with bulbasaur because the first 2 gyms are weak against grass Pokemon
