Conscription is the compulsory joining up (enlistment) of a citizen of a country to the armed forces of that country.
Many countries have volunteer armed forces while other countries require young adults (usually male) to join the army for one or two years form the age of 18. However, in times of war most countries will pass an act which will enable people to be conscripted into the armed forces.

When your conscription papers arrived you would be told to report to a boot camp where you would be medically examined to be sure you were fit for duty, you would be issued with a uniform. You would swear an oath of alliance and be assigned a place in a training barracks and trained how to be a soldier. After basic training you would be assigned to a specific fighting unit a s a trained soldier.
