A distant relative to the Hobbits, Smeagol was too weak to counter the strong will of the One Ring. It corrupted him, but not so far that he totally forgot the good that was within himself. However, he was completely consumed with the Ring.

He was once one of the River-folk (much like your ordinary hobbit), but ever since he took possesion of The One Ring, he has become warped and ruined. Now he is a pitiful creature, with a crazed mind, more like an animal than a person.

Typically Gollum is described as resembling a "starved frog." He's really a form of hobbit himself, but years of being corrupted by the Ring have made him look nothing like a hobbit. He has only six razor-sharp teeth, huge eyes, and thin hair on his head.

Gollum did not appear in the Desolation of Smaug becuase Gollum was more Lord of the Rings than the Hobbit and the reason he was in the Unexpected Journey was becuase thats when Bilbo fell into his cave and found the ring and had riddles with him as Gollum only appears in the riddles in the dark part of the Hobbit and Gollum also did not leave his cave untill the Hunt For Gollum and another thing the Hobbit trilogy has Smaug as the antagonist just like the Lord of the Rings trilogy has Gollum as the antagonist
