Well, when the Mrs. Who, Mrs.Which, and Mrs.Whatsit ask the Happy Medium to show the children Earth, the Happy Medium first zooms in onto Mars, which was apparently "beautiful" with the ice caps on top. The Happy Medium didn't want to see the "Dark Thing" which the children viewed earlier on in the story, whilst resting on Uriel. However, once they see it, they become determined to fight this "Dark Thing."
