sonic and the secret rings, he's awesome!
Darkspine Sonic may have Excalibur Sonic overpowered considering that he actually has demon powers inside of him. Yet, Excalibur Sonic is very power knowing that he has a full suit of armor and a really powerful sword, Darkspine should have Excalibur Sonic beat.
During the events of Sonic and The Secret Rings, Sonic obtained the Seven World Rings, towards the end of the game, he saw Shaara (The Genie of The Ring) die at the hands of the Erazor Djinn, upon seeing this he became overcome with rage and and the seven world rings fueled that rage to turn him into Darkspine Sonic.
Err... I guest Sonic was the first appear in 1991.
No.
Shadow does appear in Sonic Colours for the DS as an NPC.

He is not from a game just the cartoon series Sonic X. If you are talking about Darkspine Sonic, he is from Sonic and the Secret Rings

no
You could consider Sonic the Werehog, Dark Sonic and Darkspine Sonic as "monster" versions of him.
No! Shadow Does Not Appear In The Game ''Sonic Unleashed''.
Darkspine Sonic, as many people know, is the super-enhanced form Sonic achieves in Sonic and the Secret Rings. Although well-known, few people draw the details properly, such as coloring the arms nirely purple or giving his feet soles, as to make them shoes. Darkspine Sonic uses the 7 World Rings from a dimension unbeknownst to any characters within the entire game of Sonic and the Secret Rings (SSR for short) to generate his power. Although commonly mistaken, Darkspine does not control or conduct fire. During his battle with Al-Layla-Wa-Layla (translating to 1,001 and defined as "god" in the Arabian Nights), Darkspine only has increased power compared to earlier gameplay. In the end of the game, he uses the power of the World Rings (which supposedly are from another dimension but control the one he was presently in) to return the world of the Arabian Nights book to its original form before Alf-Layla-Wa-Layla distorted it. This did not return the book to its original structure, though. Darkspine Sonic is highly focused in hand-to-hand combat skills, and takes a particular advantage in his speed, as well as the power generated by the World Rings.
My best guess is yes, but I I'm not sure because of darkspine Sonic. I think shadow can, under the same conditions as Sonic. He hasn't had the same conditions, but I'm sure if he did he could turn into darkspine Shadow. Other than that, he can turn into more forms than Sonic.
obviously SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!
Going by the continuity of the games alone (that is, excluding the comics and cartoons), Sonic has five forms. Super Sonic, Sonic the Werehog, Excalibur-Sonic, Darkspine Sonic, and Hyper Sonic.
No. Darkspine Sonic is simply an exponentially-proficient form Sonic uses when he fuses with the 7 World Rings. It in no way influences his behavior.
Dark Super Sonic only appears in "Sonic X" because he was made as an original character for the series. He was appears to be the series equivalent of Darkspine Sonic from the game "Sonic and the Seven Rings" due to his powers being influenced by negative thoughts.
