He says that you get sick to your stomach which lasts about a day. Then due to something called intracellular ionization he will get much sicker in a day or two. He will get a high fever (over 106) and he will get anemic. He will be very susceptible to disease. Later on in the book a side effect is very weak legs, because he was laying in the bed for so long, but latter regains his strength.
