My Little Pony is a wonderful show for all ages and genders! The episodes of the current show focus on important lessons involving making and keeping friendships, and the characters are for the most part good role models who are eager to learn and improve. The current show, Friendship is Magic, isn't really targeted at a specific gender or age group, so everyone can enjoy it!

First off, this is an opinion, and also, there are 4 generations of mlp. Seeing generation 3, yeah, most people will agree that it's very weird, but some actually do like it. However, the most popular version is G4, (released 10-10-10) which I assume you are referring to. Like I said before though, it's an opinion. Of course many, perhaps yourself, will consider it to be very weird. That's only natural. However, there are those who live by the show. It is a very popular thing, because unless you actually watch it, it's a really great show that's enjoyable and actually good entertainment in today's world of TV. Many are scared of giving it a chance, but many who do enjoy it, and they find access to a HUGE community of people who are kind to each other and don't judge each other. So if you think it's weird, that's fine. But there are many of us who find enjoyment of it, and we will continue to show that.
