The Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon manga series was indeed created by girls, for girls, about girls. The anime Pretty Soldier Sailormoon that was based on the manga was drawn by men and has a more masculine air about it than the manga. Males can watch the anime, but most American boys would probably find it too girlie. However, if you are a guy, I still recommend it because Sailor Moon is amazing imo.
I hope that helped.
Sailor Moon is not terribly violent especially compared to some other shows that are out there. However, there is a certain amount of violence that while is not a problem for those of the female gender as a whole, but rather to younger children. The English version was rated Y7 (at least for the first season) and had some instances of blood and violence edited out. However, the sexual content of Sailor Moon has often produced more controversy than the violence ever did. For instance there are some scantily clad women (not too bad for anime standards) as well as relationships between younger middle school girls and older college students (nothing more than kisses really, the manga seems to have a slightly more graphic content). While you may want to review the show before showing it to your children I can honestly say that while I was younger I enjoyed the experience of watching the cartoon and neither I nor my parents found the content objectionable.
NOT VIOLANTE!
All of the Senshi (Sailor Scouts in the dubbed version) are female. Naoko Takeuchi, the series creator has said this many times in interviews.
Some of the characters in the manga are very masculine (Uranus for example) but she is still female.
In the manga (comic), the Starlights from the Stars arc are women who dress as men to hide themselves. In the anime, they are women who physically take on the form of men (episodes of the characters in bathing suits illustrate this), but they are also truly women.
sailor moon is not "a guys show" it has too much romance and lovey dovey stuff. A guy's show would be something like "higurashi no naku koro ni"
NOOO. YOU'RE A GAY BOY IF YOU LIKE SAILOR MOON. TOO MUCH LOVE INVOLVED.

Sailor Moon being suitable for kids is all a matter of opinion since on one hand one opinion could state that because it's a superhero show which means there are fighting scenes involved that it's not suitable for children however on the other hand another's opinion could state that Sailor Moon is suitable for kids because the fighting scenes would compare to the fighting that superheroes such as Superman, Batman and Spider-Man do.
Well, Yeah! Anyone can watch Sailor Moon! I see no law against it! Hope this Helped! - Zay.
