Steven was volunteering at an Australian wildlife park by the time he was 6 years old and wrestled his first crocodile when he was just 9 years old. In 1991 he took over the park and renamed it the Australia Zoo. 1991 was the same year that Irwin met his wife, Terri Raines, who he married in 1992. They had daughter Bindi in 1998 and son Robert in 2003. Steve Irwin passed away on September 4, 2006 while swimming with stingrays in Australia after one accidentally stung him through the heart.
