Grace Potter and the Nocturnals formed in 2002 from the town of Waitsfield, Vermont. They began their careers playing as many as 200 gigs a year on the music festivals circuit. They originally began their careers as an indie band before signing a deal with Hollywood Records in 2005.

Well, in the tv show they said that when she was little she had scarlet fever and it damaged the nerves in her eyes and therefore her sight kept getting worse and eventually it got so bad that she went blind. But in the little house book By the Shores of Silver Lake they said that when Mary was 14 she, Ma, Carrie and Grace all got scarlet fever, but Mary got the worst of it and went blind within a month.
