Is reading Harry Potter a sin?

• Harry is a light wizard; he repelled a dark wizard when he was a baby, through the power of love. Before I go any further, one must point out, that The Bible clearly states "and the greatest of these is love." Now, Harry fights against evil, and eventually triumphs over evil, thus saving the world from these dark wizards and witches.In addition to this, the poor child does not flaunt his wealth but in fact continuously tries to share it with his poor friends. Harry has stated several times that he does not like being famous or the fact that he has to kill somebody, (due to a prophecy, kinda like the ones in the Bible). In short, this story does not encourage children to be evil, it does not encourage cultists to rise up against paranoid people, and it is not a sin to read Harry Potter for entertainment and an escape from this world for another.

• Magic is considered evil by many. the opinion is that despite Harry's good intentions in the story good can never come out of evil and magic is evil. Evil can come in deceptive ways and however good they may seem good cannot come out of it. I think this is the problem most people have with the story. Of course there are many other stories that show magic being used for good that are not being complained about.

• Though this is essentially a question of opinion, to which there really is no 'right' answer, reading can hardly be a sin, Harry Potter is fictional, it is not a guide of how to live one's life, and therefore as it is in no way instructive, one can argue philosophically that it represents no kind of sin. Remember that Hitler burned books that repressed ideas he did not like, and the essential point is idea, Hitler had his own, which very few agree with but one can present whatever ideas they want, it is whether or not you choose to adopt or support them that is your moral choice. If you think that the ideas in Harry Potter are sinful or evil, it is your decision, but the reading of them is not. Harry Potter is a story, a children's tale representative of the times humanity has lived, and is living in. (Note that in the chronology of Harry Potter that Grindlewald is defeated at approximately the end of the Second World War, not, says Rowling, a coincidence). The book deals in human characters, Harry is not perfect, but he is not evil, and Voldemort is human, perhaps pyschopathic but motivated by a very human fear of death. Finally, magic is not evil, it doesn't exist, it's a story!

These books are a religious story of love, fear, power and sacrifice its lkke a bibile story in a way as it shows lots of symbols of love and hate and doing what is right not what is easy, and like Lord of the Rings it shows Freindship and loyolty and facing pure evil and how the power of love is the only true power hate is a reality but love is the stronger as hate is from ego love is from that wich is sacred. so reading Harry Potter is not a sin but a wonderfuil read about facing darkness for the sake of love .
