How do you tell if your Leroy Neiman is a serigraph or lithograph?

If the print is pencil signed and numbered in the margin outside the image, it is most likely a serigraph. If there is a signature within the image AND a pencil signature, this is called a plate signed lithograph. If there is no pencil signed signature, it is most likely a poster. As a major dealer, LeRoy only signs serigraphs in pencil. Everything that is a poster is signed in pen or felt pen. Also a poster is smaller than the graphic. The poster is obviously 1 dimensional, and the serigraph looks like it has paint on the paper. In addition, the poster is an offset image of the original. So, you can see the actual brush strokes as in a photo. Whereas, the serigraph is reproduced by the printer and therefore, you will not see actual brush stroke marks.

How can you find the value of a 1967 Leroy Neiman print of a Fox hunt?

I have this print and was told that it is actually a canvas transfer. Worth a few hundred dollars but probally not much more than that. In addition, it was a freebee given out as part of a Playboy Key gift package in 1967 so I suspect you may be right as I don't think that Playboy was going to give out an expensive print with a Playboy key a bottle of wine an the print for $25. You are correct in that the print of this painting is valued at a few hundred dollars. A limited edition serigraph of this painting would fetch somewhere in the neighborhood of $4,000.

Does a Giclee or a Silk-Screen have greater value?

A silk-screen (if it were in fact a 'silk' screen, another subject to be tackled, since silk has not been in use for this process in years) has more value than any machine printed artwork or form. Since the, (let's call this what it is)..serigraph..is produced by hand mostly, with each color applied and registered, time involving to create the right color balance, which could also involve color matching/mixing and test prints to create the final print. The Serigraph process will usually include a limited smaller run, since any machine output can be any number of 'limited' prints....and is automatic. The Serigraph print will and can last for years. Since the Giclee printing or ink really has absolutely no history, except for the past years that machines have been in use(1990's) no one can really say what the outcome is in 100 years. Silk-screen/Serigraph prints and posters have a proven history since one can peruse original posters in any art museum in the world.... Therefore the value is in "Silk-Screen'

What are the advantages and disadvantages of LAbel printers?

If you normally print a lot of labels, it makes sense to print on a dedicated label printer. This leaves your main inkjet/laser printer free for printing documents without needing to reset between print jobs.

Is there a print magazine dedicated to motorcycle part sales?

I am not aware of any magazines dedicated to motorcycle parts, but motorcycle magazines such as Motorcycle Sports and Leisure and The Classic Motorcycle have classified ads in them each month. There are motorcycle parts catalogs such as J&P Cycles. They have a website (http://www.jpcycles.com) as well as a print catalog.

Is a giclee better than a serigraph?

There is an entirely different process used in making each type of image. A lithograph is a very high quality machine printed image made by using a 4 color separation process much like how the covers of any color magazine is printed. A Serigraph is a silk screened image. With a Serigraph the original oil painting is scanned and separated digitally into each and every color found in the original. A separate silk screen is created for each and every color that was scanned. There are usually from 80 to 130 individual colors in the majority of some Serigraphs. Each silk screen is precisely placed over the Serigraph paper, and then by hand squeegee, paint for a specific color is applied. This single application of one paint color must then dry for at least 24 to 48 hours before the next color paint can be applied. It can take a Serographer up to 6 months to produce 1 run of as many as 500 Serigraphs of the same image. Serigraphs are also produced in much smaller numbers than Lithographs, and they are as costly to produce, and as close to the actual original painting as you can possibly get. There is a very noticeable difference in the high quality of a Serigraph (technically original art) when compared to a Lithograph (reproduction).
