Is the Percy Jackson movie different than the book?

No, it is not. Lightning Thief is full of Mythical Creatures and is less more deep and touching than Harry Potter. Lightning Thief is full of fake demigods when Harry Potter is full of real emotions and feelings with hard spells and enchantments. If you would pick a series pick Harry Potter. The only similarities are that on the cover of Lightning Thief, Percy is holding a sword and a fang like Harry Potter in the second book. The second thing is there is a Percy in Harry Potter and both Percy and Harry are getting used to the new backgrounds around them. So no, in my opinion it is not the same but Harry Potter is better than Lightning Thief

By watching the previews the movie does not seem to follow the book very well.

For example, the main characters are supposed to be about 12 years old, and the lead female character is supposed to have blonde hair, not dark brown. But I'm not sure about the story, I guess we will have to see when the movie comes out.

The movie has some really big events in the story but some are left out. Such as when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover are on their way to the Lotus Casino, they leave out of how they road to the casino in a semi with animals. Also in the book, the lightning bolt was a cylinder, and in the movie it is just a small lightning bolt.

NO. NOT ONE BIT. The movie is WAY different from the book, which disappointed me very much. The movie itself was very good, Logan Lerman did a good job of Percy, though the other characters all seemed a little different.
