There are two different wardrobes that Harry Potter possesses:

His muggle clothes:

"all he had to wear were old clothes of Dudley's, and Dudley was about four times bigger than he was." -Sorcerer's Stone (page 20)

"his baggy clothes and broken glasses" -Sorcerer's Stone (page 30)

This would symbolize the fact that, while the wizard Harry Potter was famous, before he knew of Hogwarts and his own destiny, he was considered nobody. He had nothing of his own, and had no one.

His wizarding clothes:

"plain work robes (black) one plain pointed hat (black)... one winter cloak (black, silver fastenings)" -Sorcerer's Stone (page 66)

This symbolizes the darkness surrounding Harry throughout the wizarding world. He is famous here, and could be whoever he wants to be. Yet, there is a darkness around him, from the fact that the idea of the Dark Lord Voldemort is always hanging over him, always threatening him and all he loves.
